PRIME Minister and Chair of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), Manasseh Sogavare has congratulated the newly-elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, Charlot Salwai.
In a congratulatory message to his Vanuatu counterpart, Mr Sogavare said:
“I write with great pleasure and gratitude to sincerely congratulate you on your election as the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu.
“I observed with keen interest that you have enjoyed majority support and secured overwhelming confidence of the 11th Legislature Parliament of the Republic of Vanuatu.
“I look forward to working with you in my capacity as a colleague Prime Minister of a Melanesian country and also with my added responsibility as Chair of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.”
Mr Sogavare also informed Mr Salwai of his proposed visit to Vanuatu from the 16th to the 19th of this month (February).
He said the purpose of the visit is to discuss with Mr Salwai strategic issues facing the MSG.
Mr Salwai’s election follows Vanuatu’s snap election which the MSG dispatched a mission headed by a former Solomon Islands prime minister, Sir Francis Billy Hilly, to observe.
Prime Minister Salwai is from the Reunification of Movements for Change party.
