SOLOMON Islands National University’s (SINU) Kukum campus is now powered by solar energy after the commissioning of the solar project last Friday.
The project is a gift from Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen to young Solomon Islanders attending SINU.
It is aimed at reducing SINU’s utility costs so that the amount saved could be used for other developments and students’ resources.
The solar project produced 400Kilowatts of electricity while the SINU Kukum campus only uses 200Kilowatts.
Taiwan will officially hand over the project to SINU next month.
