Solomon Breweries has taken positive steps to boost their staff’s COVID-19 preparedness when they officially handed out their own produced hand sanitisers to all their employees.
Solomon Breweries (SolBrew) stated that giving hand sanitisers to their staff was a small way to help them outside of the workplace as for some maintaining COVID-19 hygiene and distancing measures, in their communities, can be a challenge.
SolBrew’s Managing Director, Peralt van der Merwe said that this was just the next step in their COVID-19 plans, “we set up our COVID-19 plan at the end of January and have been implementing it as the situation unfolds. One of our first actions was staff awareness on how they can protect themselves so providing them with free sanitisers was simply the next step.”
Mr van der Merwe said “at SolBrew we have implemented COVID-19 hygiene and distancing measures but are aware that for some of our staff in their homes and communities this is not always possible. So giving our staff free hand sanitisers was a small way we felt we can help them outside of the workplace.”
“We decided to produce our own sanitisers because we knew that sanitisers were expensive for most Solomon Islanders and that stocks were limited in shops,” he said.
Solomon Islands is currently amongst 20 countries that are still yet to record any positive case of COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken the world by storm and has to date over 1.9 million cases across the globe.
