The opening of the 2014 Solo Icon yesterday has brought hundreds of youths in Honiara which at the art gallery showground.
The opening was highlighted with youths participating, sharing and expressing their talent through their style of singing .
The theme of this year’s event is “Citizen Govern through quality choice.” It was aimed at bringing youths together to share and exposed their talents.
A total of 27 contestants with seven from the junior category took part in the event.
Coordinator of the event Geoffrey Alacky said the aim of the event is to bring youths together to showcase their talents and skills of singing as a platform of advocacy for good governance in the country.
He said the youth program was also to expose on what really the government should do in a way of strengthening youths in the country.
He said the high number of attendance at the event has reflected the importance for government and leaders in the country to ensure that youths’ issues and concern are addressed.
“Youths are very important people in any country where they need programs to strengthen them inorder to help contribute to nation building and make the right decisions to lead the nation forward,” Alackey said.
The event will continue in the coming weeks until it reaches the finals.
