Solomon Islands National Women’s Futsal team has suffered its first defeat in their opening match against Tahiti in the first ever OFC Futsal Women’s Nations Cup competition.
The match was played Sunday 5pm at the Friendship Hall in East Honiara.
The Tahitians side over powered the host nation 5 – 1 in an entertaining thriller.
Tahiti scored 3 goals to lead Solomon Islands in the first half of the game.
Tahiti who scored very early three minutes later in the first half, while the second goal came in five minutes after the opening goal and the third goal scored few seconds before the half time.
Solomon Islands team Captain Ileen Pegi scored a goal to close the gap for the home side making it 3 – 1 before the half time ended.
Second half saw Tahiti extended their score level with 2 unanswered goals to make it 5-1 before the full time.
Both teams have good ball handling and passes in the first half with Solomon Islands has well counter attacks at the front while the Tahitian side defending very well with their tall central defenders at the back.
The game saw many local fans and supporters turned up to cheer the home side in a tough battle but their misused scoring opportunities has cost them to suffer their first defeat in front of the home crowd.
Solomon Islands will play against Tonga on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the host nation needs to win their two final matches in order to make them through to the Semi-final spot.
Solomon Islands will play New Zealand on Thursday and against Fiji for its final match on Friday.
