Gizo: SOLOMON Water is working on resolving the issue resulting in brackish water being experienced by its customers in Noro, Western Province.
In a statement today after affected customers expressed their frustration, Solomon Water also expressed its sincere apologies to its valued customers in Noro, for issues related to the salty water.
“We regret the inconvenience and concern this has caused and want to assure you we are taking immediate action to respond to the problem,” it stated.
Engineers from the firm are trying to find the cause of the problem.
“We are working to identify the cause of the brackish water and to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
There are reports suggesting that continuous rising sea level may have been the cause.
In the meantime, Solomon Water had advised its customers to take all necessary precautions and avoid using the affected water for drinking, food preparation, cooking and consumption.
“We understand the importance of clean and safe drinking water and Solomon Water is committed to providing our customers with the highest level of service.
“We will continue to work diligently to restore the water supply to its normal quality.
“We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the issue,” the statement said.
A Noro resident, Hillary Lawrence said, the main water source at the Ziata river source is currently mixed with saltwater due to the effects of the king tide recently.
Hillary told Solomon Star that water becomes too salty and members of the Noro community are experiencing similar salt taste and brackish like taste from the piped water
‘’This is not getting even better, it’s been 3 weeks since we did not have access to good and fresh water supplied by Solomon Water,’’ he said.
