A HIGH level delegation from Solomon Water management and its Board is visiting the Western Provincial capital of Gizo starting today.
The delegation will include Solomon Water management executive, Board members and project contractor.
The purpose of the visit is to conduct a site visit to where the new Solomon Water Customer Care Service Centre will be located and the main water source at Mile Six.
Under the project water is expected to be sourced via a piping system to all Gizo residential and business houses.
The new Customer Care Centre will be established next to the Gizo community hall.
Soon after their arrival the Board of Directors, along with Solomon Water officials together with the Suez officials, the current contractor from French will pay a courtesy visit to the Western Provincial Caretaker Administer since the Provincial Government (PG) was dissolved on June 13th.
Western Provincial Secretary (PS), Jeffrey Wickham said, it is welcoming news for Gizo as the island currently experiences water shortage due to lack of rainfall.
“As all of you are already aware and experience the long period of dry spell in Gizo has affected most Gizo residents for almost five months now.”
PS Wickham said with the set up of Solomon Water in Gizo, it will answer many of the calls and cries by the residents.
“I hope that the courtesy visit will solve one of the long time issues and problems that the people in Gizo have been facing,” he said.
From Gizo, the delegation will travel over to Noro and Munda on Friday to conduct similar site visit.
Meanwhile, the current water shortage had forced many families to travel far from their homes to fetch water.
The water shortage has also affected many businesses and government officials.
The situation has also led to health issues such as diarrhea and other small bacterial issues. The cause is due to the dirty water inside the tanks.
Even worse some people also starting to drink water from the water bore holes can only be used for washing and swimming.
