THE Women’s Survivor Experience Study report and Stretim Attitude about VAWG Report were launched during the official opening of the 16 days of Activism programs in Honiara, last Monday.
Introducing the reports during the official launching, Dr. Anouk Ride Dolaiano said the reports contain findings of Victims of Gender-Based Violence here in the Solomon Islands.
“The report contains findings whether the victims are safer or less safe after they hey go to the refuge, after they go to the police and whether they satisfied with the help that they have at the service or not,’’ said Dr. Anouk Ride Dolaiano.
Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Women Youth Children & Family Affairs (MWYVFA) Dr Cedrick Alependava said that MWYVFA is have commissioned to and supported the two studies with the funding from the Australian High Commission which are significant as voices of Solomon Islanders.
“In 2017 the research report, Stretim Attitudes about Communication about Women and Girls examines social attitudes to uncover what messages would be most likely to chance violence against women and girls (VAW).
“The report provides evidence of what messages work and do not work and these would help agencies be more effective in their communication.
“This year the study of Women’s Survivor Experience of family violence began in five provinces Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western, Isabel and Temotu to learn of survivor’s stories.
“This report identifies what is working well, what is not working so well and what changes to the functional process could enable more women to be satisfied with outcomes,’’ he said.
He then thanked the Australian High Commission and His Excellency Roderick Brazier Australian High commissioner to the Solomon Islands for his passion and commitment to advance gender equality in the Solomon Islands which has impact many lives.
