READSI (Resources for Education to Advance Development in Solomon Islands) have secured a substantial sponsorship deal with SolRice to improve literacy throughout the country.
Nick Ellis, General Manager of SolRice said:“The program managed by READSI is close to our hearts as a corporate body that firmly believes in the long term success of our islands and our people.
“The growth in literacy rates could possibly be the most powerful tool the Solomons has to drive growth in the economy to the benefit of everybody.”
Mr Ellis continued; “Literacy rates in the Solomon Islands are some of the lowest in the world at 17% and a hard working government with limited resources can only achieve so much in enhancing the educational standards of our people.
“Therefore, organisations such as READSI, supported by organisations like SolRice, various other business houses and Government agencies for instance, can make a huge difference to the future of the Solomon Islands and this is why SolRice is an enthusiastic supporter of Joyce and her team at READSI.”
READSI would like to let it be known that there is much more room for support from other agencies, NGO’s and business houses.
“The task that READSI has set itself in school libraries, both stocking with books and educating new readers, as well as building and stocking new ‘mini’ libraries in the smaller centres and villages of the Solomon Islands is an immense undertaking,” said Mr Ellis.
“Wherever we can find fellow like-minded organisations and business houses that see the future opportunity that READSI represents to this country, like we do at SolRice, the better.
“Please talk to Joyce, you will quickly get a sense of her passion and determination to succeed and throw your support behind READSI to be part of the amazing future of the Solomon Islands.”
