THE country’s national U23 men’s football team, Solympics has made it to the grand finals of the OFC Men’s Olympic Qualifier.
Solympics sealed their grand final spot after edging their way past a tough Vanuatu side with a 1-0 win in Lautoka, Fiji on Wednesday.
Augustine Waita was the hero of the team after he scored the winning goal for Solympics in the 35th minute of the match.
There were a series of chances for Solympics however were denied buy the tough Vanuatu defense line up and custodian.
Vanuatu came back stronger in the second half forcing their way into the Solympics territory in search for the equalizer.
Their efforts fell short after a player was red carded giving Solympics the advantage to defend their goal mouth.
The Batram Suri led side maintained their defense for the remaining minutes of the second half despite chances by Vanuatu who came barging into the Solympic box still hoping to find the equalizer.
The Solympics will now take on New Zealand in the grand final while Vanuatu will take on Fiji for the losers final.
New Zealand defeated Fiji 6-1 in yesterday’s opening semi final.
