PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare says Rence Sore is his best choice for the Special Secretary to Prime Minister’s (SSPM) job.
Mr Sogavare made the defence after the Opposition and Gold Ridge landowners alleged that Mr Sore is yet to be cleared as a suspect in the $18-Million Gold Ridge royalty payment scandal.
“He has the ability to perform the job well, and I know that he can perform well in that capacity,” the prime Minister said.
When Solomon Star asked Mr Sore yesterday about his new appointment, he declined to comment, citing the issue had got out of hand in the media.
Secretary to Cabinet, James Remobatu confirmed Mr Sore was unofficially appointed to the SSPM post.
However, Mr Remobatu said he will be officially appointed when the Public Service Commission endorsed his appointment.
But he said there is nothing to stop the Government from appointing someone for a job in the Prime Minister’s Office.
He said so far there were no names received for other political appointments in the PMO.
Solomon Star understands there are four newly created departments within political office of the Prime Minister.
The four departments included the Fundamental Reform, Productive Sector Reform, Resource Sector Reform and Social Sector Reform.
