THE 2016 South Vella La Vella Constituency netball cup tournament has successfully ended at Maravari village on Thursday 7/07/2016 with a prize giving ceremony.
Member of Parliament (MP) for South East Vella La Vella constituency and main sponsor Alex Gora Lionel, church elders, chiefs, supporters and friends took part in the event.
Mr Lionel with his supporters acknowledged all those who have participated in the event.
The netball cup grand final saw a dramatic conclusion as the Sambora Sky 1 edged out the Malosova 61-27 to win their first-ever title.
Maravari Yellow scooped the third place after edged out Lubao of Sambora Village 63-33 to win third place with best uniform award while Lubao grabbed 4th place with one female awarded fairest player of the tournament.
The 2016 champions Sambora Sky 1 appeared to have done enough to remain their crown for this year’s tournament.
Speaking during the closing ceremony Lionel said the 2016 South Vella la Vella Constituency cup tournament has seen many women and girls participating.
The theme of this year netball cup tournament is “Promoting Peace and Harmony through Netball.”
Based on the theme the MP said, “women you are the role model in our society today and I acknowledge every participating teams who manage to conclude this year closing ceremony here at Maravari village.”
Hon Alex said the government will continue to support the standard of sport in rural area to promote many potential players to represent our country in future.
He said that his constituency will continue to implement other development projects in the South East Vella La Vella Constituency.
The closing also coincided with celebration of the country’s 38th Independence celebration held at Maravari.
“Happy 38th independence celebration South East Vella La Vella constituency as our nation today marks this special day since we get independence from the British protectorate.
“Greetings from the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) and my good people of South East Vella La Vella Constituency as we mark the Solomon Islands achieved internal government in January 7, 1976. The legislative Assembly was renamed to the National Parliament of Solomon Islands,” said Lionel.
“I pass my greetings to you all my good people of South East Vella La Vella Constituency from the Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and the cabinet Ministers as we celebrate the country’s 38th independence anniversary”.
He said the constituency office will continue to work close with the remaining projects and housing scheme will continue to develop around the constituency.
The MP acknowledged families, friends and supporters who participated throughout a week long tournament.
“Especially the good fathers for their patient while their mothers join the teams from the villages.”
Meanwhile at the closing Lionel announced that the next tournament for South Vella La Vella netball in 2018 will have $30,000.00 for first prize following other consolation prizes.
He also urges every participating team to work hard and to maintain the same spirit of sportsmanship in 2018.
Heres how the prize go;
First prize Sambora Sky 1 with $10, 000.00 dollars, trophy and gold medals for each players.
Second prize Malosova 2 with $8,000.00 dollars included Silver for each players.
Third prize Maravari Yellow with $6, 000.00 dollars included bronze for each players.
Forth prize Lubao of Sambora village grabbed the forth place position with $4.000.00 dollars.
