The recently released list for the country’s U19 men’s soccer squad has been trimmed from 56 players to 27.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Football federation (SIFF).
The 27 remaining players for the final training squad were selected following three weeks of intensive training held at the SIFF Academy playing field.
All players are asked to turn up for training thrice weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Sessions for the following days will start at 3:00pm respectively.
Meanwhile the SIFF technical department thanked all the players who made the effort to attend the trials over the last three weeks and encouraged those who are not
named to continue their commitment as football players.
The number of players will be further trimmed as the selection team which is made up of soccer coaches along with the SIFF technical department continually observe each player’s performance during trainings and discipline both on and off the field.
The final squad will represent the Solomon Islands in the upcoming U19 tournament in May.
The tournament also serves as the qualification process for the 2015 FIFA Under-20 World Cup which is to be staged in New Zealand.
With New Zealand out of the picture, the race is for the first time only between Solomon Islands and other island countries.
Winning the competition would mean direct qualification to the FIFA U20 World Cup alongside New Zealand.
