The Honiara Football Association Congress has decided that the 2014 league proper will start on the May 10.
The dates for the start of league was part of the agenda item in HFA’s annual general meeting which was held on March 6, 2014.
The HFA congress had given the green light for the HFA executive to work towards starting the league around the mid of May.
The start of league however is determined by how long the play-offs will last.
The congress had decided that the qualification play-offs must start as soon as possible (in two weeks’ time) to ensure the three vacant positions in Division 2 be filled before the start of league proper around mid-May.
Four teams have already been identified for the play-offs. The four teams are K1 FC, LS Kuma FC, Rainbow FC and Kakamora FC while there are also expressions of interests from newly formed clubs to participate in the play-offs.
The congress heard these four teams were identified early since they were part of the HFA league in 2010 when the league was last played.
However, last year the four teams failed to pay-up their registration fees and thus had automatically lost their right to remain in the divisions they were in.
The Executive with the blessing of the congress has however, decided to give the four teams a chance to be part of the 2014 league.
