OUT of the nine provinces in the country, Malaita province still remains the most populated province.
According to data extracted from the National Statistics office in Honiara early this week, the total number stands at 154,097.
An officer from the office told the Solomon Star, this was the latest update since 2009 to 2018.
“A big number of the population were males which was 77,421 while females, 76, 658,” the officer said.
He added that the most populated group age that dominated the population were from 5 years to 9 years.
“Another group age was 10 to 14 years,” the officer added.
This means that the population of Malaita province is being dominated by young children and youths, it was highlighted.
The data also pointed out that male group has the bigger population in the province.
The data also showed that people from age 70-74 were very few at the moment in the province.
However, this population figure only covers per head in the province itself.
Those travelling out from the province were not included.
The data was collected in 2009 and will be updated in 2018.
Most data are updated after every nine years.
Guadalcanal province is coming well behind Malaita province with a population of nearly 130 thousand people.
