A FEMALE expat working for an international NGO here has expressed her joy at the return of her stolen iPhone last week.
The woman has had her Phone snatched from her hand at the Borderline bus stop last month.
“Thank you very much for the honesty shown by the one who returned it,” the woman, who asked not to be named, told the Solomon Star.
She said the iPhone was handed back to her in perfect condition by a community chief from Borderline area Wednesday last week.
She said after the Solomon Star reported on the incident, the community and Naha police worked together to get her iPhone back.
Jimmy Riti, elder and community chief from the Borderline, handed back the iPhone to the woman.
“Jimmy gave me the phone along with an apology on behalf of his community,” the woman said.
“It was incredible. I didn’t expect to get my phone back. But here it is.
“If it had been stolen back home in Canada, I would never have taken it back.”
She said that speaks of the integrity and community spirit of the vast majority of Solomon Islanders.
“It also shows how strong community justice and governance is in Solomon Islands, and the strengths of such localised systems.”
