PASSENGERS traveling from Auki-Honiara have expressed concern over paying of hefty sea-fares for uncomfortable traveling.
A good number of passengers who traveled on-board the passenger boats said they pay fares only to be squeezed in overloaded boats.
“That is not fair. It is the responsibility of boat owners to control the number of people allowed on the boat.
“When you allow more than the number required, others will have to remain standing for the duration of travel time. That is not what they are paid to do. The cost of fares was for the boats to provide a comfortable ride, but when you prioritise profit and allow more passengers in, it takes away comfort.”
Those concerned said some people would stand in the scorching heat and or remain wet if it rains.
“Profit must never take the place of prioritising passengers’ safety and confort.
“Last Saturday’s trip on Express Pelican from Auki to Honiara was the same. Other passenger boats were the same.
“This is not fair. Do not take advantage of the fact that people are desperate to return to Honiara. Adhere to marine laws and load boats to reasonable capacities.”
