WHILE a good lot cleans up the streets at night in preparation for the business day, another lot moves in during day with betel-but and cigarette to contribute to the littering.
It has been a concern and continues to be a concern that the law enforcement division of the Honiara City Council is urged to not give up on targeting.
A concern man Zebulon Gii said street vendors seem to never give up.
“I think severe punishment should be imposed to discourage this inexcusable attitude.
“Merely chasing them away is not a solution as you have witnessed. Harsher penalties must be imposed such as imprisonment for a month to a year.
“Harsher penalties give a clear message and frighten them from selling betel-buts along the city streets.”
The concern man said the problem with selling betel-nut along the streets is the filthy spitting normally made everywhere.
Mr Gii calls on the newly elected city major to put more emphasis on tackling the problem.
“The city will be hosting visitors and tourists so it must be kept clean.”
