ALL strong wind warning advisories previously issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (MET) are now cancelled.
Since Monday this week, the weather office had been issuing a number of strong wind warnings to alert the public about expected strong wind situation in the three provinces namely – Rennell&Bellona, Temotu and Makira.
In a statement issued this morning the weather bureau said; “Strong wind warning cancellation issued by issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service at 6.30am this morning on Friday, 27th December 2024.
“A strong wind warning previously issued for waters of Rennell&Bellobam Temotu and Makira provinces is now cancelled,” the statement said.
The warning was issued due to a situation of a trough located over the Solomon Islands.
The MET office explained that the expected west to northwest winds of 20 to 25 knots over waters of Rennell&Bellona, Temotu and Makira provinces is now easing and below the warning threshold.
However, expect poor visibility in showers and thunderstorm area, the MET Office said.
“This is the final update for this strong wind event.”
For next week, parts of the country are likely to experience fine weather suitable for travel.
With the country going through the Christmas and New Year festive season, the movement of people between the islands is expected to continue into January.
