FORMER and current students of Selwyn College have called for the tar sealing of road leading to the school in Northwest Guadalcanal.
“This portion of road should be tar sealed as it is one of the country’s beautiful landscape and a pivotal route leading to a prominent school and communities further down west.”
Northwest Guadalcanal Solomon Star stringer John Toki quoted a group of ex-Selwyn College students who traveled to the school to mark the college’s 46th anniversary celebrations over the weekend.
Mr Toki said the former and even the current students are appealing to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID) to complete the tar sealing the road from Kombo to Konasenge River joining the Snake Hill road.
“The old students say this road is important that they should upgrade and take care of it.
“We have visitors from abroad that uses this road and it should be tar sealed all the way down to where the road ends,” Mr Toki relayed.
He said most children of government officers are attending Selwyn College and they should address the roads tar sealing and upgrading.
“We have international communities living in these areas like the Kohimarama training center and suppliers of fresh garden produce to the Honiara market.
“The college also host children of some prominent figures and the backdrop of this road is worth a tourist getaway,” Mr Toki added.
As reported earlier by this paper, similar sentiments on issues to address the poor roads conditions leading out of the city to rural areas of Guadalcanal seemsto fall on deaf ears as the ministry responsible never did their job.
