ABOUT 90 local students who have been awarded scholarships by the Chinese Government will leave the country today bound China to take up their studies in various universities there.
Secretary to Prime Minister (SPM) and Vice Chairman of the National Oversight Committee (NOC) Dr Jimmie Rodgers announced the date fortnight ago.
He said about 90 local students will travel to China to study under Chinese government scholarship.
When the list was leaked to the media and published, it received negative reaction from the public.
This is the first group of students that will travel to China since the COVID outbreak.
Some of the students are those who have not completed their studies in Taiwan after Solomon Islands switched ties.
Solomon Airlines airbus will operate the charter flight from Honiara to China and return.
On its return trip, the airbus will bring back some Solomon Islands citizens plus technical people and engineers to work on various Chinese funded projects in the country.
