Two local students in Fiji tested positive for Coronavirus
TWO students studying at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Laucala, Fiji have been tested positive for Covid-19.
According to one executive member of the Solomon Islands Students Association (SISA), both students were confirmed to be infected by the virus following a test early this week.
“The two students were tested Monday this week, and their results came back positive.
“Their second test on Tuesday also returned positive. Therefore, both students are now confirmed to be infected,” the senior student who wants his name withheld told this paper from Suva last night.
He said those two students were renting a home at Nasese just near the Laucala campus.
Their rented home also accommodates students from Fiji and Vanuatu, one report reaching the Solomon Star last night said.
“Now, they’re locked down where they rented and being monitored there,” the SISA executive member confirmed.
However, he said those two students are asymptomatic, meaning they’re not feeling unwell thou they have the virus.
He said more tested outcome of our students’ result will be released later.
Last night, Fiji has reported 308 new COVID-19 cases.
Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said of the 308 new cases of COVID-19, 297 cases are from the Lami-Nausori Containment Zone, and 11 are from Tramline Nadi.
Mr Fong added, 218 of the cases in Lami-Suva-Nausori are from existing areas of interest. This includes 153 cases from Qauia in Lami.
12 cases are from new areas of interest that include Goodman Fielder, Gounder Shipping, Nausori Police Barracks and Saint Giles Hospital.
Doctor Fong says the remaining cases are contacts of known cases, or cases that were seen in screening clinics and were swabbed.
