A WEEK-LONG workshop of different countries concluded on Friday at Woodford International School in Honiara.
“Yesterday was our big show when countries showcased what they had learnt throughout the week,” the coordinator of the program told this paper.
The activity is held every year. Students are divided into groups to research information about various countries represented at the school.
This was purposely to promote cultural awareness and understanding since the school was attended by students of different countries and ethnicity.
The Art Extravaganza features cultural performances, food preparation and art exhibition from countries such as Fiji, New Zealand, UK, Australia, Africa, PNG, India, China, Polynesia and Micronesia.
During the week, selected parents and individuals are invited to teach students cultural dances and food preparation styles of different countries.
“The school is multi-cultural and having such a program helps bring awareness, understanding and acceptance of each country’s unique cultures,” the Principal of the school revealed.
He said the program is held annually under different themes but the main focus always revolves around cultural awareness and sensitivity.
“Since the program is paying dividend, the school is looking at organising a much bigger one next year,” he said.
Parents have attended in huge numbers to witness the show.
