THE number of cases of males suffering from sexual organ infections after failed penis enlargement attempts has increased in Malaita province.
Reports reaching Solomon Star said most of sufferers are students who unsuccessfully attempted to enlarge their penis with the injection of a silicon substance.
The reports said the students experience serious infection to their sexual organs and are suffering at their homes.
The reports said the students are embarrassed to go to the clinics or the Kiluufi Hospital and remain home only to suffer from serious infections to their penises.
A Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA) Nurse in Auki Hilda Misi confirmed that they received few cases of male visiting its clinic with complaints of penis infection.
“Yes, we have received number of patients, mostly students complaining of infected private parts after injecting them with silicon.”
Ms Misi said the majority of patients visited the SIPPA clinic last year and they were mostly young people, particularly students.
She said following reports and complaints of failed penis enlargement attempts and infections, SIPPA rolled out an awareness to schools and communities to inform them of the dangers of such practices.
Ms Misi said they were informed by the students that the penis enlargement silicon injection fee was $100 per head.
She meanwhile warned men against such practices as it is dangerous and can cost their lives.
Ms Misi added that it is an illegal practice that should not be even thought of.
“It is important to bear in mind that the injection of a foreign material into a penis is dangerous and can result in permanent damages to the penis or can cost one’s life,” she added.
Ms Misi said few cases they attended to were beyond their ability to treat and had to be referred to the hospital.
