THE University of the South Pacific (USP) Solomon Islands campus has been busy with late registration this week.
And a technical fault with the registration system has also forced the university to register late students manually this week, said the campus’ acting director Dr Patricia Rodie.
She made the clarification following complains and concerns raised by students in joining long queue to pay up their fees and conduct their late registration this week.
Classes have resumed three weeks ago. This week staff have been busy with late registration and those who need to settle their fees.
A concern student told paper its time the university needs to improve its registration service to cater for big number of student’s who are enrolling each semester.
A visit by the paper to the campus this week saw many students still lining up to complete half of their fees and others who were late to register.
While other students who have registered already claimed they are yet to receive their text books and course materials.
The acting director Dr Rodie said the failure in network service has forced staff to execute manual registration.
She explained most of the students have registered already but are trying to complete half of their fees before they can proceed to attend classes and lectures for the second semester.
“Registration has already closed last Friday and there are number of students who are yet to pay up their outstanding fee.
“This week most of the students are trying to pay up fees and other outstanding payments.
“This late time registration is to give time for those private sponsored students who have registered last week pay up their fees before they can attend classes,” she told the paper.
According to USP policy a student must at least pay 50% of their fee for the semester before he or she can attend classes.
Late registrations and fee payment closes this week.
