THE Solomon Islands Students Association (SISA) is now investigating the shocking reports of drunken disturbances by some Solomon Islanders studying in Suva, Fiji.
SISA president Elijah Raomae told the Solomon Star that investigations into the case started as of Monday.
“I want to inform you that we are investigating the allegations of drunken disturbance leveled against some Solomon Islands students. We started the investigations today (yesterday),” Mr Raomae said.
He said SISA executive have teamed up with the education attaché to carry out the investigation.
Mr Raomae said his executive met with Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Fiji Patteson Oti and the complainant in the case- former Assistant RAMSI Special Coordinator Masi Lomaloma yesterday concerning the embarrassing reports of drunken disturbance.
He said that the reports have not only tainted the reputation of Solomon Islands students in Suva but all Solomon Islanders living there and his executive needs to verify the reports and if they are true then disciplinary actions must be taken against those concerned.
Mr Raomae said his executive expects to complete the investigation by Friday this week.
Mr Lomaloma over the weekend expressed disgust at what he described as the ‘unruly behaviour of Solomon Islands students studying in Fiji and their bad party behaviour’ on Facebook.
Commenting on a facebook post on the issue of rowdy behaviour of Solomon Islands drunken youths, Mr Lomaloma said he has a group of Solomon Islands students renting an accommodation just behind his house in Suva and whenever the students receive their allowance the whole neighborhood would never go to sleep for two to three weekends.
“They are certainly not good ambassadors of Solomon Islands. Maybe these students (ought to) be taught how to drink. The lot that live behind my house transform to a pack of animals when they are drunk. They shout, they sing, they fight and indecently expose themselves to the neighborhood and they are just total nuisance.
He added that on one occasion they attacked a young Fijian boy and this sparked a retaliatory response from the Fijian community in the area which was only broken up when the Police intervened.
President Raomae said once the investigation is completed, his executive will forward the full investigation report to the media for publication.
