MALAITA Premier, Daniel Suidani is filing a High Court case this week against the key players in the delay of the swearing-in of newly appointed Ministers of the Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) government and Deputy Premier.
According to a statement, Mr Suidani filed the Court order against Minister of the Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) Rollen Seleso, the Deputy Speaker of the Malaita Provincial Assembly Joe Heroau, and Attorney General John Muria Junior.
This is for not following procedure in the Provincial Government Act as per the swearing-in scenario.
In the statement, it said “the Premier is seeking a High Court order for Minister Seleso to appoint Executive members that he has nominated, as is the normal procedure provided for under the Provincial Government Act.”
“Suidani is also seeking a High Court order for the Deputy Speaker of the Malaita Assembly, Joe Heroau, to swear in the Executive members he has nominated.”
“Both Heroau and Seleso have so far refused to take these actions,” it stated.
It was common knowledge that Premier Suidani terminated the former Deputy Premier, Randol Sifoni through his powers under the Provincial Government Act.
However, Sifoni has refused to accept the termination.
Moreover, the statement said, “Suidani has also made several nominations of new Executive Members which Seleso has so far not appointed, and which Heroau has not sworn in”
Suidani is seeking urgency to have this matter heard and decided on by the High Court due to the inability of the Malaita Provincial Executive to operate whilst appointments are held up by the people concerned, the statement said.
