Says the core issue affecting nation is leadership
The Malaita Provincial Premier Daniel Suidani says the core issue facing this country is leadership that needs to be dealt with accordingly.
Speaking to local media on Tuesday Premier Suidani blamed poor leadership that continues to frustrate people resulting in what has transpired in Honiara fortnight ago.
The premier said the debate in parliament on Monday during the motion of no confidence that Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare defeated has missed the main point which is the leadership crisis that the county has been facing.
“PM used the debate to fire his anger at Malaitans and its leaders but missed the real issue at hand which provoked Malaitans, and that is poor leadership that continues to deny development from this country and Malaita.”
He said the PM in his debate on the floor of parliament blamed him and the opposition leader as the main instigator towards the recent burning and looting of Honiara.
“Those are baseless attacks that should not be mentioned on the floor of parliament,” he said.
He said that there is no evidence that the Premier of Malaita is behind the recent events in Honiara.
“It is just sad that the PM is using the floor of the parliament to put the blame on him when the leadership crisis in this country has been there for the past decades.”
He said it is time that the PM must take some responsibility and do self-reflection on his style of leadership rather than looking for emerging leaders like him to put the blame on.
The premier said leadership in this country has been an issue as evident in the 2000 coup, 2006 April riot, and burning of Chinatown, and the latest looting and burning of Honiara City.
With that, the Premier said PM Sogavare has been there long enough to find a solution to address the leadership crisis in this country.
“Its sad that the PM still points finger to try to divert attention from the reality that the country is in a leadership crisis.”
He said a classic example of poor leadership is the big time failure to act on the Townsville Peace Agreement (TPA) for the past 21 years.
He said should the past government under the leadership of the current PM actioned the TPA some years back, the sad incident that took place in Honiara in the past weeks should not have emerged the way it did.
The Premier said the PM can yell to the top of his voice and put his anger on chairs and tables in parliament, but if he fails to address leadership issues in the country then nothing will change and history will continue to repeat itself.
