MALAITA Province is now calling on the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare led government to quickly implement the proposed Federal Constitution which it promised for the provinces.
Malaita Provincial Premier Daniel Suidani said due to the “unpopular leadership style” of DCGA, Malaita wanted a quick implementation of Federalism.
Mr Suidani had been keeping his position on the Federal System quiet when he was approached to comment on the agenda days after he took office in 2019.
However, he said after monitoring the unpopular leadership style of DCGA, Malaita is now fully supporting the Federal System of Government.
He said the province has already started conducting a survey to collect views from the people on Malaita autonomy.
“Malaita Province, like other big provinces, is now calling on the government to quickly implement the Federal Constitution to allow provinces to look after themselves through the state system,” Mr Suidani said.
“The centralisation of power with the Central government has now outlived its usefulness, if at all it has any usefulness.”
“This is now the cry of the provinces and the DCGA cannot continue to ignore the wishes of the people.”
“This is no time for sweet talks, lollies or carrots from the Central Government. This is now the time to do the right thing.”
“The MARA government is continuing its survey on autonomy exercise and hope to gather the information from the survey soon.”
“Once information from the autonomy survey is collated that would give the MARA Government an indication of what to do next.”
