THE Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) government has ensured the successful implementation of a total of 18 Provincial Capacity Development Fund-funded projects in the current financial year 2022-2023.
PCDF projects are funded by the government through the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS). For Malaita Province, the Malaita Provincial Planning Development Committee makes recommendations to the MPGIS on projects for funding under PCDF.
This was highlighted by Premier Daniel Suidani at the Malaita Province 39th Second Appointed Day anniversary celebration in Auki on Monday this week.
He said the challenges his government had experiencing with PCDF-supported projects delay in the release of funds from the MPGIS.
On that note, the Premier requested MPGIS to consider fast-tracking the transfer process of PCDF funds to the Malaita Provincial Government to enable it start implementing its planed project activities for the remaining period of the current financial year.
“I would like to kindly request the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening if allowable to fast-track the PDCF transfer process so that Malaita Provincial government can start implementing our planned projects activities as soon as possible.”
“A fast and timely implementation of the project will help Malaita Province to improve its scoring rate in performance measures.”
“Unfortunately, capital funding for first and second quarter are yet to be received and that is not good news for Malaita Province.” Mr Suidani said
He reiterated that timely of PCDF means a greater number of projects can be accomplished within one financial year.
