SOLOMON Islands for Peace and Development (SIPD) is a political party which Malaita Province Premier Daniel Suidani proposed to set up in preparation for the upcoming national general elections.
Speaking during his recent visit to the Southern Region of Malaita Province, Mr Suidani said this political party is not for Malaita Province only but for Solomon Islands.
Mr Suidani said this political party will address all issues left untouched for the past decades such as the Townsville Peace Agreement, State Government, removal of the Constituency Development Fund from Members of Parliament, tabling of the Truth and Reconciliation report, land issues and many other unsolved issues affecting the country.
He said this party will also discourage independent candidates from contesting the national elections.
He said ground work on this new political party has started with public consultations to get people’s view on the proposed political party.
The new political party is expected to be launched before the 2023 national general elections with Mr Suidani as its president.
It is anticipated that this new political party will be a subject of discussion in a one day meeting for Malaita leaders which will be convened anytime soon in Auki by the MARA Government.
