Twelve basketball teams have been confirmed to take part in the Super Six-Gender Parity basketball competition which is set to kick off this weekend.
The 12 teams comprises of six male teams and six female teams.
The teams are Gunners, Marist, Crusaders, Blazers, Bullets, SOSA for the male category and SOSA, Defenders, Andel, Lakers, Sunrise and El Divas.
The competition is organized by the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) and proudly sponsored by Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs.
The aim of this competition is to promote; Equal participation of women and men, Zero tolerance on discrimination, Saying NO to gender based violence and Women leadership and decision making.
According to a statement by the SIBF, Basketball as a sport is an effective avenue to support MWYCFA towards meeting its national objectives and at the same time help build a stronger basketball community that is appreciative of the contributions of both men and women,
The theme is “Play Fair, True and Be a leader in our Basketball community”.

Whilst this is an agenda based competition, it will also be utilized as the pre-season opener for most teams and clubs under HBL.
