THE national government through the Ministry of Aviation and Communication (MCA) thanked its traditional donor partners for their support to the aviation sector in the country.
Minister for Aviation and Communication Peter Shanel made the acknowledgement in parliament this week.
Mr Shanel said there had been significant progress made in the aviation sector because of support from donors.
He made reference to the upgrade of Honiara International Airport, construction of new terminals, new runways, upgrade of provincial airports and funding of new navigational aids.
The Minister said without the support of the country’s donor partners, these projects would not be possible.
He then thanked World Bank, the governments of Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other donors.
“Thank you for supporting the aviation sector in funding and upgrading most of the domestic airports related projects.”
He also thanked his permanent secretary and support staff for backing him and serving the ministry well.
“Thanks for the support being accorded to me as your minister for the past four years to ensure we provide the kind of service that we require,” he said.
