A 43-year-old male suspect has been arrested for an alleged attempted murder of a 19-year-old girl in Northwest Choiseul recently.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa said, it was alleged that the suspect repeatedly punched the victim on her forehead and repeatedly hit the victim’s head against the post of a graveyard house.
PPC Pogesopa said, the suspect then later pulled the victim’s hair and pushed her to the ground using his hands and stepped on her back.
Superintendent Pogesopa said few people who witnessed the incident intervened and stopped the suspect from further attacking the victim.
Mr. Pogesopa said, the victim was taken to Taro Hospital, and later she was referred to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) for further medical treatment.
The suspect was arrested, dealt with, and was bailed to appear before court on a later date.
“I urge all men to respect and protect women in our society. If we have disagreements or issues that need to be resolved, then please resolve them in a more peaceful manner but not through violence because those who entertain violence in our communities will be dealt with,” said PPC Pogesopa.
He said the law was made to protect the weak and vulnerable people in our society; therefore, any form of violence that is used against another person will not be tolerated but will be dealt with seriously according to the law.
