A SUSPECT has been arrested by Gizo Police following the break-in incident at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gizo, Western Province, in which the church lost $50,463 worth of cash and equipment.
The suspect was apprehended by Noro Police officers on Tuesday afternoon and subsequently transported back to Gizo Police Station on a police boat that evening.
The SDA Church in Gizo in its police report estimated the loss following the burglary incident at $50,463. This figure included $35,963.50 cash, cheques and equipment.
It is understood that person or persons involved in the incident broke into the church through the back door and took the wooden cash box which contained the cash and cheques. An external hard drive was also stolen.
SDA Area Church Pastor (ACP) Vernon Peter told Solomon Star that only the empty offering bags and cheque book were recovered and are now with the police.
“No cash is recovered as yet,” Pastor Peter said.
The suspect is now in police custody as Gizo Police continues their investigation into the incident.
