FIJI TIMES – The Suva football team is all geared up and ready to give their best shot at winning the Fiji Airways sponsored Oceania Football Confederation Champions League which kicks off at the ANZ Stadium this weekend.
The team has been preparing for some time now and will be out to win the tournament in front of home fans.
Suva coach Gurjit Singh said it was a milestone achievement as this was the first Suva side that had qualified for an international tournament such as this.
“This is a huge opportunity for us to expose our players to a tournament like this and the players are looking forward to it. This provides a platform for players exposure and also an opportunity to be scouted by overseas teams. We have been preparing well and played few matches against Ba as buildup,” Singh said.
He said it was not going to be easy as they were grouped in the pool of death.
“Obliviously we are in a tough pool and all teams are good. We just have to stick to our game plan and take each game at a time. We have five new players in the team and they are mixing well with current crop of players. Our fitness levels are well tuned and combinations are setting up well.”
Suva have brought in Rusiate Mateirerega, Maciu Dunadamu, Abdul Ahman from Seattle USA and George Jeremy and Adrian Medina from Spain to bolster their squad for the tournament.
Suva takes on the National Olympians side in its last friendly match at the Fiji FA grounds before playing Auckland City in its first pool match this Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
