If raw talented players with the likes of James Naka, Joe Lui and other players can make it to the national level, nothing is impossible for rural football players to follow the same trend.
Our Telekom Marketing Manager Robert Szetu echoed this to Star Sports when he officially handed over Our Telekom support to Dekon Kuong Coordinator of the Marovo Open Championship, which sets to kick off at Bisuana village, Marovo Lagoon, Western province from June 27th to July 6th 2017.
“I was in Gizo during the recent Western Cup tournament and had witnessed that there are lots of potential players in the province,’’ he said.
“If only they had regular or active competitions in the rural areas, definitely home-based players can have opportunities to represent their province in tournaments such as the Solomon Cup in which Honiara based clubs can identify them and recruit them for their clubs,’’ he said.
“For instance, James Naka, Joe Lui etc are identified from provincial teams during Solomon Cups.’’
Szetu said clubs in Honiara saw their potentials and recruited them for their teams.
“They then later make their way through to the national squad,’’ he added.
As such Szetu praised the initiative Kuong has created for local players in Marovo.
“We support his initiative to organise sports competition because it will provide the opportunity for local players to exposed their skills and talents,’’ he said.
He also urged young players to make use of such opportunity to expose their potential in football in order to make progress in their football career.
