The Solomon Islands Table Tennis Federation- SITTF President Mr. Aldrin Bekala handed over Table Tennis Tables to Malaita Table Tennis Association President Mr. William Farobo and Isabel Representative Mr. Frank Poura yesterday afternoon at Jadok Sports Shop in bringing table tennis development into the Provinces.
The Solomon Islands Government through Ministry of Home Affairs Federation handed 40 tables during the World Table Tennis Day on 6th April 2016 as part of supporting the Table Tennis Development National Sports Structure under the Solomon Islands Table Tennis Federation. The tables given to the two (2) Provinces were part of this package. Makira Ulawa Province was the first Province to receive its table. The Federation will give tables to other Provinces as and when they establish their Provincial Table Tennis Association.
This year’s Solomon Games Table Tennis competition was participated by six (6) Provinces including Honiara and was successfully completed on Saturday. The Federation organized a meeting on Wednesday afternoon for the participating Provinces and highlighted the importance of establishing Provincial Table Tennis Associations as this will be the link of the Federation in the Provinces in developing the sport in the Provinces.
SITTF President Mr. Aldrin Bekala mentioned during the meeting that the Federation is very happy to see the participation of six provinces in the recent Solomon Games and would like see all the Provinces participating in the next Solomon Games in 2018. This can only happen through strong links in the Provinces through Provincial Table Tennis Associations.
The Solomon Islands Table Tennis Federation aspires strong links with the Provinces in developing table tennis in breeding athletes in preparation towards 2023 Pacific Games.
The representatives of Malaita and Isabel upon receiving the tables thanked the SITTF President and the government for the support and looking forward to drive the development of table tennis in their Provinces with the dream to popularize table tennis as a sports for everyone, everywhere.
