Honiara Table Tennis Association (HTTA) is currently conducting a training camp in preparation for an upcoming championship.
The weekend training is being held from 10am to 12pm each Saturday at the Multipurpose Hall.
Young children aged between Under 12 and Under-15 are part of the training.
The training camp commenced last month ahead of the championship scheduled for 21st to 24th of this month at the Multipurpose Hall.
HTTA President and the Smash Down Barriers Coordinator Kevin Olea told Star Sport yesterday that the training camp is underway.
This is to prepare for the table tennis youth championship later this month in Honiara.
“The aim of this training camp is to prepare young people from schools and communities to enhance their skills and understand the rule of the game.”
The competition will be hosted by HTTA as one of the delivering partner of the Team Up Smash Down barriers and Bounce It Back for students, Olea said.
The competition will be staged in two categories.
He said, so far so good in terms of the training sessions.
“We have been going on well since last month till today,” he said.
Their final training camp session will be this coming Saturday 19th October before the competition kicks off.
As part of the training camp before the actual competition event there will be an organised pre-competition matches for the boys and girls.
The HTTA President said, the table tennis youth competition will be a weeklong competition.
Young kids from local communities and schools will come together and compete against each other.
It will only be staged in the afternoons from 3pm to 5pm after school hours at the Multipurpose Hall.
The dates for the pre-competition matches is yet to be confirmed.
Some of the schools that will participate includes; Mt Horab School, Sama school, Green Valley, Red Cross Special Centre, Mosquito Valley school, Rifle Range School, Coronation school, Mbua valley school, and others to name a few.
