Tamboko community in North West Guadalcanal were given a free medical service by Taiwanese Mobile medical team from Taiwan Navy squadron and Taiwan Medical centre on Tuesday.
Also assisting them are dentists from the Guadalcanal provincial health services.
The services provided ranges from general health enquiry, eye test and dental health.
More than 200 people both young and old from Visale to Vura travelled to Tamboko evacuation center to make use with the free medical services.
Community leader Alfred Sisi acknowledged the Taiwanese government for providing free medical services for the people in the rural areas.
He said, the community surrounding Tamboko area has a population of about 2000 who still yet have access to health services.
He said, there is a health center within their area but the ratio of sick people against health workers is challenging.
“We are happy that such free health service reaches our community and we hope that such service will continue,” he said.
Ambassador of Taiwan Victor Te-sun Yu assured the community that his government will continue provide free medical service for the people in the rural areas.
He saidd Taiwan has a strong bilateral relationship with Solomon Islands and health service will not be overlooked.
Mr Yu was also accompany by Rear Admiral Yu Pin Lin during their visit to Tamboko.
During their visit they meet with teachers and students of Tamboko primary school and secondary school.
He also assured the teachers that his government is considering to assistance the school with school stationeries in the future.
