TAIWAN Tuesday released $13.5 million to the government for the second payment of the 2014 Constituency Development Fund.
Ambassador Victor Te-Sun Yu handed the funds to Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.
There are three annual installments of payments for 2014 Taiwan funding, which is composed of the Support to Constituency Development (RSCD), Constituency Micro-Project Fund (RCMPF), and Millennium Development Fund (MDF) in every tranche.
Based on mutual agreement between the two countries, the Ministry of Rural Development will submit acquittal reports to the embassy of ROC(Taiwan) prior to the above three installment payments to ensure accountability and transparency in use of ROC funds.
Ambassador Yu said the funding will contribute to local development projects and improve the quality of life for people in the rural area.
“The ROC(Taiwan) will continue to support Solomon Islands Government for the development of rural villages,” he said.
Prime Minister Lilo said the funding will bring big benefit to the majority of Solomon people in rural areas and enhance their welfare.
He thanked Taiwan for its continued support.
