Dear Editor – Passengers travelling by Solomon Airlines on route Choiseul to Honiara are now paying additional $100 for a two-way ticket totaling $4,144.00.
This is a very expensive and long distance route. Yet travelers to and from this remote province have no choice but pay the price.
The National Government should take note of above concern and assist Choiseul air travelers by improving the air service to Choiseul Bay and upgrade facilities at Taro Airfield to satisfy the costs of air travelling.
To do this the Ministry of Civil Aviation to include Taro Airport at Choiseul Bay, under the management of the newly established State Owned Enterprise, the Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Ltd.
In a press release on January this year (Solomon Star No 6498) the Permanent Secretary stated that Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Ltd will start looking after, Henderson, Munda and Gizo.
However, Taro Airport should be included also because apart from the need to upgrade and improve it:
a) Taro Airport is on government land with title on the Premier of Choiseul Provincial Assembly and all clear for the Government or its agencies to improve right away.
b) Taro Airport is near an international border and should be given priority of direct management by Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Ltd.
