MINISTRY of Communication and Aviation (MCA) through the office of the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands (CAASI) has completed a review survey of Taro airport in Choiseul Province.
CASSI Director George Satu told the Solomon Star yesterday the review is to upgrade the runway to cater for the Dash-8 aircraft to land.
“The review data survey we did last month is part of the government polices to improve the runway airport to allow Dash-8 aircraft to land in Taro.”
He said, at the moment, Dash-8 could not to land there because the runway did not meet the requirement for the aircraft to land,” Mr Satu said.
“Taro airport is one of the runways in the country government is currently working on to expand it to meet Dash 8 requirement.”
He said, this airport needs more work and expansion.
Other airport which needs expansion are Seghe.
Gizo airport will need fencing, he said.
Most of these airports have been inspected and work to upgrade will kick off once funds being budgeted for becomes available.
