MEMBER of Parliament for West New Georgia/Vona Vona, Silas Vaqara Tausinga looks set to join the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC).
Camp insiders told the Sunday Star Tausinga, a member of the Solomon Islands Party for Rural Advancement (SIPRA), is currently in dialogues with his party’s executive and will be tendering his resignation before teaming up with the DCC, who are now based at the Heritage Park Hotel.
Sources from the DCC camp revealed that upon his resignation from SIPRA, Tausinga will then join up with the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) who had seen three of its members resign last week.
“Since his arrival from his constituency on Friday, Tausinga has been in dialogues with SIPRA executives and will be tendering his resignation letter before teaming up with the DCC,” a camp insider said.
“He (Tausinga) has confirmed to us that he will be joining the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) which is also part of DCC.”
The source also confirmed that Tausinga is still yet to be based at either of the political camps at Mendana Hotel and the Heritage Park Hotel since arriving in town.
“He has yet to be based in one of the two camps, however he has confirmed to us that he will be supporting the DCC in its strive to form the next government under the leadership of Manasseh Sogavare,” the source said.
But a SIPRA spokesman yesterday denied any dialogue between Tausinga and the party executive.
“Tausinga is a member of SIPRA and is part of the SIPDC,” the spokesman said.
“We have not recieved any resignation letters from him, nor has SIPRA been in dialogue with Tausinga in the past two days.
“He will remain part of SIPRA and will always be welcomed at our camp,” the spokesman said.
Tausinga, who is serving his second term, could not be reached for comments.
Any move by Tausinga to the Sogavare camp will increase their numerical strength.
The MPs will elect a new prime minister on Tuesday.
Sogavare and Jeremiah Manele are contesting the job.
