A TEACHER who attended the “Protectim Pikinini” forum held at the Iron Bottom Sound (IBS) in Honiara, Tuesday this week, expressed disappointment over nonattendance of relevant authorities.
The female teacher, who wanted her name withheld, said it was disappointing to note some invited education authorities and others failed to attend the forum to hear from the children.
“Most things being said during this forum are real facts and the authorities should be here to hear for themselves what was going on down in the communities,” she said.
“Most issues raised by the students such as lack of good sanitation and water supply are very important and the authorities should be there to take note of them,” the teacher added.
“These students are speaking from their daily experiences.”
The teacher said it was their right to raise those issues as some of them are long time issues.
It was understood invitations were sent to Ministry of Education and others but only representatives from Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs and the Social Welfare division turned up.
“These children are the human resources of the country and they should not be neglected like this.
“I want to see that next time those concern authorities must attend.”
She thanked Save the Children for organising the forum, which she said allowed the primary school students to speak out issues affecting their lives at schools.
