TEACHERS who are still on a break in Honiara, urban centres and villages have been advised to return to their place of duty.
The advise comes as some of the teachers are still to return for work despite classes for secondary and primary have commenced.
An official from the education ministry issued the reminder early this week after reports that a good number of teachers have yet to return to the schools they posted.
“Teachers if you are still in Honiara, please make your way as soon as possible to your workplace. This is a kind reminder. Lets work together for the good of our children,” the official said.
Reports reaching the paper said some of the secondary school teachers who have been appointed to their new schools have yet to travel.
Classes for secondary school classes commenced on May 30th and primary on Monday 13th June.
However, most teachers are yet to turn up at work blaming it on the delay in transportation, delay in confirming their posting and vaccination requirement.
Reports highlighted that a good number of teachers were still seen in Honiara.
Ministry of Education in its weekly radio program has advised all teachers to return to their schools as soon as possible to start of classes without further delay.
This is because the 2022 academic year is expected to be short.
Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes will resume next month on Monday July 4th and therefore, the education ministry has advised all ECE teachers to return to schools and start preparing for classes this week.
The country is expected to be affected by teacher shortage this year after a good number of teachers have been terminated for failing to get their jab.
Some schools are now without qualified teachers which is an issue for some school administration to deal with.
