The Temotu contingent for Solomon Games has left Lata on Tuesday for Honiara on board LC Grace.
President of the Temotu Football Association (TPA) Luke Lapoe confirmed this to Star Sports from Lata last night.
“Despite the bad weather experienced over this side, our contingent left on Tuesday night for Honiara,’’ he said.
“Our contingent consists of soccer team, boxing and taekwondo,’’ he said.
Lapoe said their futsal and netball teams were not able to make to Honiara via the first available transport due to some unforeseen circumstance.
“Our futsal and netball players were well prepared to board LC Grace on Tuesday night but their officials were not prepared, thus they cannot make it ,’’ he said.
He said it will be a setback for futsal and netball players.
Lapoe stressed the possibility for their remaining athletes to attend the Solomon Games now depends entirely on any available vessels servicing their province.
“Transport service at this end are not regularly, however we are hoping that any ship will come to this end before Solomon Games will kick off,’’ he added.
Meanwhile Lapoe called on his good people from Tomotu living in Honiara to support Temotu athletes for Solomon Games.
“Our support and assistance towards Temotu contingent would be very encouraging and will motivate our athletes during the games,’’ he said.
Lapoe further stressed the contingent that left Lata are mostly students, therefore they will desperately need support and assistance from Temotuans in Honiara.
