Dear Editor – Grateful if you could publish this piece of concern from Kirakira and more broadly across Makira Ulawa Province.
People in Makira Ulawa Province, particularly in the Provincial capital Kirakira and surrounding communities, have been experiencing very poor telecommunication services by Our Telekom.
This problem has been on-going for many years now, most of the Makira Ulawa Province Facebook sites have been flooded with complaints and numerous calls in the media as well as directly to Telekom Senior Management without any slight change or even chance of it occurring.
Our Provincial and National leaders seem to be ignorant of this vital infrastructure, in today’s ever changing and fast paced world of economics; telecommunication plays a pivotal part in advancing positive change, connecting people and advancing development.
I think with “Our Telekom” flashing large sums of money into one-off sport tournaments and yet providing below poor standard of services in Makira Ulawa Province, it is appalling and a shame by all standards, if it really claims to be “OUR” company then we in Makira are definitely not part of its over exaggerated media billboards, publications and continued media statements of excellence.
I think we in Makira deserve an explanation and some clear directions as to when services will at least come to a state where phone calls last more than a minute or two, reception is clear and our poor people are getting money’s worth for the funds spent on phone calls.
The situation is even worst for Makirians overseas whom try to connect with family back home.
The public in Makira are so desperate for an alternate service provider, yet there are only rumours of Bmobile/Vodafone entering the market in Makira.
If Telekom is reluctant to improve services in Kirakira, then they should vacate the prime site that they occupy in Kirakira and allow a better entity to provide some worthy services beside the crap that we no longer can stand.
Tangio & Mauru Koro.
