THE Solomon Islands largest telecommunication company, Our Telekom has donated six Aspera 3G phones, One 3G Tablet and Telekom baskets to be used as consolation prizes for Marovo Open Championship (MOC) set to be staged in Bisuana Village, Marovo Lagoon, Western province from June 27th to July 6th 2016.
Speaking during the brief handing over ceremony yesterday at the Telekom head office in Point Cruz, Our Telekom Marketing Manager Robert Szetu said the donation was part of their ongoing support towards sports development in the country as well as Our Telekom’s proposed expansion in Marovo.
“Our Telekom is a major sponsor in football in the Solomon Islands, hence, we are really proud to support MOC with our products to be used as consolation prizes for the competition,’’ he said.
He also stressed the location in which MOC will be hosted in Marovo did not have full network coverage, as such the support rendered yesterday was part of their proposed expansion preparation for Marovo Lagoon as well as the rest of Western province.
“This support is in preparation for our expansion in Marovo,’’ he said.
Szetu said a lot of their expansions this year and last was conducted in Malaita.
“And so this year we are planning to revisit our 3G coverage in Western province, starting at Gizo and will end up in Marovo Lagoon, he said.
“So this is our early support for our customers in Marovo,’’ he said.
He also confirmed during the competition Our Telekom Sales team will be touring Marovo Lagoon to sell their products as well as to visit their customers and debrief them about Our Telekom latest products and services.
Meanwhile Marovo Open Championship coordinator Dekon Kuong thanked Our Telekom for the donation.
“I would like to thank Our Telekom for these great prizes,’’ he said.
“Our Telekom is the first company that respond to our request and so I am very excited to receive these donation,’’ he said.
Kuong stressed the idea to host the MOC was initiated to help develop our sports in the country.
“Our football in the country has dropped and as mad football fan I would also like to make contribution on how we can raise our football standard.’’
“That’s why I came up with this idea to organise competition in rural area,’’ Kuong said.
He also stressed organising such competition will provide great avenue for our local players to exposed their skills and talents.
Meanwhile, Marovo Open Championship will feature soccer seven a-side, netball and Volleyball knock outs.
The championship is open for everyone, whether in Honiara or any other provinces.

Registration will starts on the 26th of June and can be done on phone 7445970.
Repay will also be allowed for losing teams only in round one.
During the competition awareness will be conducted.
“Community Policing Team is confirmed to attend to provide awareness while the Ministry of Youth will also send their officials to conduct awareness,’’ he said.
“I believe this will be a great opportunity for our rural people to ask questions on their areas on concerns,’’ he said.
