ST Joseph’s Tenaru Secondary School will participate in seven sports in the upcoming National Secondary School Games (NSSG) next week.
Tenaru School Principal, Abraham Hihiru confirmed they will take part in athletics for track and field, basketball, hockey, netball, rugby 7s, table tennis and volleyball.
“St Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School will be taking part in seven different sports.
“We have decided to scale down in our participation because of our financial situation.
“Based on the information we are receiving from the organizing committee there will be very little financial support to schools and according to my experience, engaging in events like this is costly.
“Our students will be accommodated at the school and commute into town every day,” he stated.
Despite facing financial constraint Tenaru School is doing all they can as a school to support the national governments plan and intentions towards the hosting of this Pacific Games event.
At the moment students have returned to their respective homes leaving only the student athletes to remain and train for the Games.
Hihiru thanked his students for the sacrifice they are making to forgo their holiday and time to be with family members and represent their school.
